The ArtEZ Music Therapy Community has been nominated for the Prix Galien MedTech award 2019 for Music Therapy, Technology and innovation in children with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy.
Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD) is the second most common gene disorder that affects predominantly male subjects. The therapy usually consists of a series of breathing exercises aimed at maintaining the functionality of the respiratory muscle. However, there is a significant chance of abandonment of the therapy when the children move to a different school. Adding gamification and forms of music-therapeutic interventions increases the engaging factor.
